ADLM 2026 to Showcase Frontiers in Space Medicine and Cancer Screening

Clinical laboratory experts will gather in Anaheim from July 26–30 for ADLM 2026, a conference highlighting breakthroughs ranging from space-based diagnostic tools for astronauts to the genetic links between Alzheimer’s and Down syndrome, alongside innovations in mass spectrometry and cancer biomarker discovery.

The five-day event, hosted by the Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine, features a plenary lineup of researchers reshaping modern healthcare. Dr. David M. Nathan, the 2026 Wallace H. Coulter Lectureship awardee, opens the program by reflecting on five decades of diabetes research, including his seminal work on hemoglobin A1c and the development of GLP-1 therapies.

Space exploration takes center stage as Dr. Kathleen McMonigal of NASA’s Johnson Space Center examines the physiological toll of microgravity. Her session addresses the urgent need for portable, 'tricorder'-style diagnostics to monitor crew health during long-term lunar and Martian missions. Concurrently, Dr. Elizabeth Head presents her longitudinal research on the biological overlap between Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease, offering potential pathways for intervention in the broader aging population.

Global health initiatives and advanced oncology also anchor the conference. Dr. Leeya Pinder will detail the implementation of self-collection HPV kits and AI-driven screening to bridge cervical cancer care gaps. Closing the plenary series, Dr. Arun Wiita explores the intersection of mass spectrometry and computational biology, demonstrating how mapping cell membrane proteins in blood cancers may unlock new immune-based therapies. The accompanying Clinical Lab Expo will feature over 700 exhibitors showcasing the latest in diagnostic automation and point-of-care technology.
