Wimbledon debuts automated Pimm's bars with Boxbar Tech

Spectators at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships are bypassing traditional queues with the tournament’s first automated self-serve bars. By partnering with Compass Group UK & Ireland, Boxbar Tech has deployed units offering pre-iced, garnished Pimm’s and Stella Artois, aimed at minimizing wait times for fans during live matches.

The installation marks a significant shift in venue catering, focusing on rapid service to keep fans in the stands. According to James Bott, co-founder of Boxbar Tech, the integration of automated pouring technology allows for a consistent presentation of the iconic tournament drink, with cups prepared in advance to ensure rapid dispensing. The deployment serves as a high-profile showcase for the company’s retail automation efforts.

This move toward digital convenience is part of a broader trend in venue management that will be highlighted at the upcoming 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards. The awards, which recognize advancements in retail and omnichannel technology, are scheduled for November 4 at The HAC in Central London.
