Fulcrum Targets Utility Field Inefficiency with New AI Platform

Utility field crews currently juggle a fragmented ecosystem of disparate apps and paper-based processes, leaving essential workflows disjointed. San Diego-based Fulcrum is attempting to bridge this gap with its newly launched Field Operations Management platform, an AI-native system designed to consolidate field execution into a single, cohesive digital environment.

Most utility enterprises rely on a patchwork of GIS, EAM, and CRM systems, each forcing technicians to use separate applications for specific tasks. Fulcrum CEO Jim Grady argues that while finance and customer operations have successfully consolidated onto ERP and CRM platforms, field operations remain trapped by a dozen different apps and traditional clipboards. The new FOM platform acts as an integration layer, pulling critical asset records and work orders from existing office systems while pushing verified, completed data back into the enterprise record.

Unlike standalone tools that create new data silos, Fulcrum allows operations teams to build AI-based extensions within a unified foundation. This enables companies to customize workflows for asset and vegetation management or emergency response without needing to manage multiple disparate interfaces. By embedding safety checks—such as hazard assessments and PPE requirements—directly into the workflow, the platform ensures that critical compliance steps cannot be bypassed or treated as secondary paper processes. The company is currently demonstrating these capabilities at the Esri User Conference 2026, targeting the nearly 3,000 firms already utilizing their software.
