Data suggests that the $152 billion global functional beverage market is being reshaped by brands that align with specific narratives. Prebiotic sodas, for instance, saw a 245% growth in tracked U.S. channels between 2022 and 2024, a surge that directly correlates with higher AI citation frequency. According to 5W founder Ronn Torossian, while legacy brands secured the physical cooler, the current battleground has moved to the algorithm, where citation share follows function rather than legacy volume. The findings highlight that visibility in AI responses is now a primary indicator of brand relevance in a fragmented market.
