At 82, Alzheimer’s Survivor Judy Benjamin Begins 650-Mile Trek

On August 1, 82-year-old Dr. Judy Benjamin departs Land’s End for a 650-mile walk to London, aiming to be the first known Alzheimer’s survivor to traverse England. Diagnosed in 2011, she intends her journey to challenge the perception of cognitive decline as an inevitability rather than a manageable condition.

Benjamin’s route spans from Cornwall through the South Downs to the heart of London, which she expects to reach by late September. This journey serves as a platform for promoting the ReCODE Protocol, a precision-medicine approach developed by neurologist Dr. Dale Bredesen. Having witnessed her mother and four uncles succumb to the disease, Benjamin credits the program—focused on nutrition, sleep, and metabolic health—with reversing the trajectory of her own diagnosis.

This British expedition follows her 2025 achievement of walking 2,790 miles across the United States. Dr. Bredesen describes her recovery as a testament to the efficacy of personalized intervention, noting that her resilience defies conventional medical expectations. Beyond the physical challenge, the walk supports the Alzheimer’s Survivors Foundation, an organization Benjamin established to advocate for early intervention and public awareness. Supported by partners including Apollo Health and Xero Shoes, she hopes her transit to London will encourage others to prioritize brain health and question the finality of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
