Larry Birkhead Challenges Upcoming Anna Nicole Smith Biopic

Larry Birkhead has publicly denounced the biographical film Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, arguing the project exploits his late partner's history. The film, which centers on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor—one of the figures implicated in Smith’s 2007 overdose—has drawn sharp criticism from Birkhead over the potential emotional toll on his daughter, Dannielynn.

Birkhead, who has spent years shielding his daughter from the tabloids following Smith’s death at age 39, claims the production forces his family into the spotlight against their will. He confirmed filing a complaint with the California Medical Board regarding the film, which is based on the 2017 memoir by Dr. Kapoor. The doctor was previously acquitted of all felony charges related to the prescription drugs found in Smith’s system at the time of her passing.

Beyond his formal complaint, Birkhead expressed deep skepticism toward the project’s artistic merits. He noted that the casting of Abbie Cornish as Smith fails to capture the model’s true character, a critique he has leveled at various portrayals over the years. While 19-year-old Dannielynn has not issued a public statement, Birkhead reports that she has expressed her own disapproval of the film. He remains steadfast in his commitment to her privacy, stating that his primary role continues to be the preservation of her well-being in the face of persistent media interest.
