Mayor Zohran Mamdani clarified the financial arrangements during a July 10 press conference, confirming that the permit was finalized just days before the event. The city’s involvement included significant road closures and a heavy NYPD presence to manage the influx of celebrities and the security requirements of one of the world's most recognizable couples. While the mayor did not disclose the total cost of police overtime, he noted the permit fee accounted for the city's operational response to the massive gathering.
Industry analysts estimate the entire celebration cost between $20 million and $30 million. Experts from The Knot Worldwide suggest that securing Madison Square Garden alone required an expenditure of up to $10 million, with extensive decor, floral installations, and guest hospitality accounting for the remainder of the budget. Despite the staggering price tag and the presence of high-profile guests like officiant Adam Sandler, the event remained largely shielded from public view, prioritizing strict non-disclosure agreements and controlled access points over media visibility.
