Lions Clubs Global Convention Draws 17,000 to Hong Kong

Four thousand members from six continents performed a synchronized Tai Chi routine in Hong Kong, setting a new world record for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The display capped the 108th Lions Clubs International Convention, which brought 17,000 delegates to the city for five days of service and leadership exchange.

The convention, held at AsiaWorld-Expo, served as a global hub for charity leaders from over 140 countries to coordinate local service projects. Beyond the record-breaking Tai Chi event, participants engaged in direct outreach across Hong Kong, providing assistance to nearly 3,500 residents. Activities ranged from home visits for the elderly to health awareness workshops, emphasizing the organization’s long-standing commitment to community-level impact.

Organizers noted that the event provided a significant boost to the local economy, with estimates suggesting that 20,000 inbound participants generated between HKD 400 million and HKD 500 million in tourism-related expenditure. Beyond the financial impact, the convention offered a platform for cross-cultural appreciation, highlighted by a "Dragon Night" gala featuring traditional Chinese attire and heritage presentations. Dr. Tam Wing-kun, Honorary Chairman of the event, stated that the gathering allowed international members to witness the city's stability firsthand, reinforcing Hong Kong's status as a professional venue for large-scale global summits.
