Sun Paper Taps Valmet for New High-Efficiency Board Line in China

Sun Paper has commissioned Valmet to install a full-scale board making line at its Nanning facility, targeting a significant boost in containerboard capacity by late 2027. The project integrates advanced automation and specialized drying technologies designed to minimize energy consumption while scaling up production for the Southwest Chinese market.

The agreement covers a comprehensive delivery spanning from headboxes to winders, featuring Valmet’s proprietary Sleeve roll technology. By utilizing forming fabric compression, this system optimizes dewatering processes to maintain quality while reducing power usage. To further enhance runnability and output, the mill will implement a compact dryer geometry and dual-winder configuration, ensuring stable performance for kraft and testliner production.

Beyond the hardware, Valmet will provide long-term lifecycle support, including digital services, spare parts, and paper machine clothing. The inclusion of an extensive automation package aims to transition the Nanning site toward higher levels of operational autonomy. While the financial details of the contract remain undisclosed, the order was officially booked during the second quarter of 2026. This project reinforces the ongoing partnership between the Finnish technology provider and the Guangxi-based manufacturer as they pursue low-carbon, integrated pulp and paper production.
