Asda partners with Evolve to overhaul Express store connectivity

Asda has tapped Evolve to revamp IT infrastructure across its 500 Express locations, prioritizing faster and more resilient internet connectivity. The multi-year agreement aims to stabilize essential payment and security systems, with more than 450 store upgrades scheduled for completion throughout the current year.

The retailer’s Express format, spanning forecourt sites and high-street shops, faces rising demand from data-intensive operations including digital media displays and food-on-the-go franchise partnerships. Evolve will deploy a fully managed service utilizing multiple carriers to accelerate site deployment and ensure network stability.

Ashley Cowley, Head of Technology Portfolio at Asda, noted that the infrastructure investment supports the brand's broader expansion strategy by ensuring staff can focus on customer service rather than technical failures. Alan Stephenson-Brown, CEO at Evolve, emphasized that in the convenience sector, even minor connectivity gaps jeopardize revenue and customer trust, making robust infrastructure a prerequisite for scaling retail operations.
