Retail Tech Weekly: Morrisons hits milestone as Evri sues BBC

Conflict defines the week in retail technology, as delivery giant Evri launches a £1.2 million lawsuit against the BBC over a Panorama investigation, even as the sector marks significant operational milestones from Morrisons’ digital shelf expansion to a major funding boost for AI-driven secondhand fashion marketplace Fleek.

Morrisons has reached a significant infrastructure milestone, deploying digital shelf edge labels across 100 stores. The rollout, conducted in partnership with Vusion, uses "Pick to Light" technology to guide staff through online order picking, aiming to eliminate manual paper updates and boost in-store efficiency. Meanwhile, the secondhand fashion sector is seeing a capital influx, with Fleek securing $25 million in Series B funding. The company, which uses a proprietary vision language model to digitize supply chains, plans to scale its AI-native marketplace and engineering teams.

Legal tensions remain high for Evri, which is challenging the BBC in the High Court. The delivery firm alleges that a Panorama report regarding its labor practices caused "serious financial loss" and damaged its contracting prospects. Evri is seeking damages and an injunction to prevent further broadcasts of the claims. Elsewhere, operational shifts continue as Lekkerland, a Rewe Group subsidiary, opened a 24/7 automated REWE To Go store at Berlin’s main railway station, and 10Beauty raised $23.5 million to expand its robotic manicure kiosks across US retail sites.
