Retail Tech Watch: M&S Adopts AI and Manna Drones Pivot to US

Marks & Spencer is overhauling its product data strategy through a new partnership with Lily AI, while Irish drone delivery specialist Manna is shifting its core operations to Tulsa, Oklahoma, following regulatory setbacks that forced a pause to its domestic services in Dublin.

The integration of the Lily AI Product Intelligence Platform allows M&S to automate the creation of structured product data at scale. According to Stephen Orford, Head of Online Experience at M&S, the platform has already improved Google Shopping visibility and search performance, effectively reducing the manual workload previously required to bring new inventory to market. The retailer now uses these AI-driven attributes to ensure products are accurately categorized for discovery from the moment they appear online.

Simultaneously, Manna is establishing Tulsa as its primary base for US expansion, with plans to hire over 1,000 staff across aviation, maintenance, and commercial roles over the next three years. Founder and CEO Bobby Healy described the move as a necessary step for global growth, emphasizing that the company’s Irish roots remain central to its innovation pipeline despite the recent grounding of its local delivery hubs. In the UK, Morrisons has also reached a significant operational milestone, completing the rollout of digital shelf-edge labels to its 100th store. The supermarket chain is leveraging these Vusion-supplied displays to implement 'Pick to Light' technology, which uses flashing indicators to guide staff through online order fulfillment, further automating store productivity.
