Watchdog Launches Tracker to Monitor AI Industry Influence on White House

A government watchdog has launched a new database designed to catalog the influence of major artificial intelligence players on the Trump administration. The project, led by the Revolving Door Project, aims to track industry ties and the subsequent policy shifts that favor tech interests over public oversight.

The organization argues that the current federal government is prioritizing an "AI first" policy, which it claims threatens to displace human labor and exacerbate environmental strain without proven public benefit. While the tracker features prominent figures like Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and Larry Ellison, it also highlights the behind-the-scenes roles of less public tech executives.

OpenAI’s Chris Lehane, known for his past Democratic Party political work, is singled out for promoting a "reverse federalism" framework, which would prevent individual states from enacting local AI regulations. Similarly, OpenAI president Greg Brockman is cited for his close ties to the GOP and his role in fast-tracking data center construction. The project also examines the influence of Marc Andreessen and several associates from the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, who have secured advisory roles within federal departments. According to the watchdog, these placements allow firms to lobby the president directly, bypassing traditional legislative intermediaries to push for industry-friendly policy changes.
