Wilson Targets Spin-Heavy Play with New Defyer Racket Line

Wilson Sporting Goods is betting on a new performance franchise, Defyer, to reshape how modern players generate spin and power. Developed at the company's Chicago-based Wilson Labs, the line integrates motorsport-inspired design with advanced structural engineering, already finding its way into the hands of rising stars like Holger Rune and Karen Khachanov.

The project began last year with a singular directive: build a frame capable of handling the increased speed and physicality of the current professional game. Wilson designers utilized a period of extensive prototype testing, where the all-black, red-accented frames were spotted on courts throughout the global circuit. Athletes including Sebastian Korda, Peyton Stearns, and Arthur Fery participated in the development, providing the real-world data necessary to refine the final product.

Technical innovations in the Defyer v1 include the Torq Shaft, which balances stability with hoop flex, and the Airfoil Bumper, designed to cut down air resistance during high-velocity swings. Complementing these is the Si3D technology, specifically tuned to optimize lateral bending for increased spin. Jason Collins, Global General Manager of Racquet Sports, described the collection as a direct response to player feedback, aiming to remove the technical ceilings often encountered by competitive athletes.

The collection spans four models—100, 100L, 100UL, and the 98 Pro—with prices ranging from $279 to $299. While advance orders open immediately, the market rollout will be staggered, with the flagship 98 Pro model set for release on July 23, followed by the remaining frames on August 21.
