The badge, developed by Madison-based Singlewire Software, addresses increasing regulatory pressure from legislation like Alyssa's Law. As school districts face mandates to equip staff with direct-to-911 alert systems, the device offers a tactile, button-based interface that functions without the need for smartphone apps or specific terminal access. Its two-tier activation system distinguishes between everyday classroom disruptions and major security threats, ensuring that responders receive clear, actionable data.
Beyond basic notification, the hardware integrates with the broader InformaCast ecosystem to provide floor-level location tracking through BLE beacons and LoRaWAN gateways. When a staff member triggers the device, the system automatically pushes alerts to IP phones, digital signage, and desktop computers, while providing administrators with live maps and camera feeds. According to Singlewire CEO Terry Swanson, the focus remains on creating tools that are intuitive under extreme pressure, allowing for rapid coordination when every second counts.
