Tim Waterton Appointed CEO of Feedback Tech Firm HappyOrNot

After serving as Chief Revenue Officer since 2021, Tim Waterton has been named CEO of HappyOrNot, succeeding Miika Mäkitalo. The Finnish company, known for its signature Smiley feedback terminals used by giants like Amazon and Google, is shifting its focus toward real-time operational improvement and AI-driven predictive insights.

Waterton assumes the role with over three decades of leadership experience in the software and technology sectors. His background includes co-founding Simulus—later acquired by BMC Software—and holding senior positions at M-Files, RainStor, the London Stock Exchange, and Accenture. According to Carl Holmquist, Chairman of HappyOrNot, Waterton’s deep involvement in the company’s recent strategic direction makes him the ideal successor to guide its next growth phase.

The company currently processes feedback for over 4,000 brands across 135 countries. Under new leadership, the firm intends to leverage its database of two billion responses to move beyond simple measurement. Waterton emphasizes that the goal is to provide actionable intelligence that allows organizations to resolve service issues in real time, utilizing partnerships with firms like Sensormatic Solutions and MarketDial to integrate microfeedback with broader service performance metrics.
