Flickr and Black Women Photographers Launch $10,000 Grant

Flickr is expanding its partnership with Black Women Photographers for the fourth consecutive year, offering a record $10,000 grant to a single creative. The recipient will be revealed live during the inaugural MODE by Flickr festival, scheduled to take place in Minneapolis from September 18 to 20, 2026.

The grant program targets Black and African women and non-binary photographers, aiming to boost career visibility within an industry that has historically marginalized these voices. Beyond the cash prize, the winner will receive two-year Flickr Pro and one-year SmugMug Pro memberships. Ten additional finalists will also be granted one-year memberships to both platforms as part of a broader effort to provide professional tools to the community.

Submissions are currently open through August 6, 2026. Applicants must be part of the Black Women Photographers organization and submit a single image centered on the theme "Traces of Connection." This year’s judging panel includes BWP founder Polly Irungu, Flickr Community Manager MacKenzie Joslin, and 2025 grant recipient Éléonore Menga. Since its inception in 2020, the Black Women Photographers collective has distributed over $185,000 in grants to support its global network of more than 2,100 creatives.
