The expansion covers major urban hubs including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, signaling a move toward premiumization for the brand. This rollout features products developed through Yatsen’s $100 million investment in R&D since 2020. Among the items hitting shelves are the Biolip Essence Lipstick 3.0 series, which utilizes patented technology to mimic skin composition, and a setting powder developed in partnership with the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
David (Jinfeng) Huang, founder and CEO of Yatsen Group, described the collaboration as validation of the company's shift toward science-led beauty. The partnership serves as a cornerstone for Yatsen’s broader internationalization strategy, which includes plans to bring Perfect Diary into Hong Kong and other global markets. This move highlights the company's ongoing effort to transition from a mass-market player into a global beauty technology powerhouse.
