BB Energy Reaches Settlement with South Sudan Over Crude Cargoes

A legal stalemate over South Sudan’s oil exports has eased as BB Energy secured three additional crude cargoes for late 2026 delivery. The deal follows a period of intense negotiation, resulting in the energy firm agreeing to lift injunctions that previously blocked the nation from accepting advance payments for its oil.

The agreement covers shipments scheduled for August, September, and November 2026. By relaxing these restrictions until the end of November, BB Energy allows the Republic of South Sudan to manage its cash flow while the two parties work toward a broader financial settlement. Jas Grewall, head of business development at BB Energy, credited the breakthrough to constructive dialogue with key officials, including Minister of Finance Kuol Daniel Ayulo and Under Secretary of Petroleum Dr. Santino Ayuel Longar.

These specific cargo awards serve as a mechanism to reduce the outstanding debt owed to the company. Both sides have committed to formal negotiations in the coming months, aiming to finalize a long-term repayment structure for the remaining balance. The resolution marks a shift from litigation to commercial cooperation, effectively stabilizing the immediate supply chain for these shipments.
