President Donald Trump continues to insist that the US requires the territory for national security, specifically citing his proposed missile defense initiative, the "Golden Dome." Despite his claims, military experts have rejected the strategic necessity of the move. While the White House considers options ranging from purchase to military intervention, broad public approval for any form of acquisition remains low at 17%.
Greenland’s leadership has firmly rejected the prospect of US control. Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated that the territory would choose Denmark over the United States in the current geopolitical standoff. In response to the escalating threats, Denmark has reportedly begun mobilizing military assets to the region. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen emphasized that the goal of the recent White House meeting was to move the discussion away from public belligerence and toward direct diplomatic engagement.
