UL Research Institutes Names Elena Zinchenko to New Executive Role

With over 15 years of experience in institutional research development, Elena Zinchenko, Ed.D., joins UL Research Institutes as its first chief program development officer. Based in Evanston, Illinois, she is tasked with scaling the nonprofit's global footprint by securing external funding and forging strategic partnerships for safety science.

Zinchenko will oversee the design and implementation of initiatives aimed at expanding the organization's reach and impact. Her mandate includes guiding sponsor engagement and managing the commercialization of research, including the strategic application of ULRI intellectual property. President and CEO James J. Hudgens noted that her background in translating scientific capabilities into multi-partner programs is central to the organization's mission of preventing harm.

Most recently, Zinchenko served as assistant provost for research at the University of Chicago, where she led the restructuring of the institution's large-proposal enterprise. Her career spans federal, commercial, and philanthropic sectors, with an academic foundation that includes a doctorate from Harvard University and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago. This new leadership position follows the organization's ongoing effort to bridge the gap between rigorous safety science and real-world policy and infrastructure standards.
