CovationBio Unveils Bio-Based Textile Innovations in New York

At the Functional Fabric Fair in New York City, Covation Biomaterials LLC is introducing two sustainable material breakthroughs: the Xatryx bioPTMEG and the Sorona elasterell-p fiber. These products aim to replace petroleum-based components in performance apparel with plant-derived alternatives, marking a shift toward supply chain defossilization.

The company is showcasing these developments at Booth #404 through July 9. Xatryx bioPTMEG, derived from renewable corncobs, functions as a direct drop-in replacement for traditional petroleum-based PTMEG. Manufacturers can integrate this material into spandex and polyurethane production without altering existing manufacturing processes, with commercial output slated for the second half of 2026.

Simultaneously, the firm is highlighting its Sorona elasterell-p fiber, a bicomponent stretch fiber composed of 37 percent plant-based polymer. Unlike traditional options, this fiber provides stretch and shape retention without requiring elastane. It is currently available for markets in the U.S. and Latin America via distribution partner Mercados Internacionales. CEO Steven Ackerman noted that these materials are designed to reduce environmental impact while maintaining the performance standards expected by apparel developers.
