Temu Joins Italy’s VER.O Initiative to Tackle Online Counterfeiting

Temu has become the first e-commerce marketplace to join Italy’s national VER.O initiative, a project spearheaded by the consumer rights group CODICI and funded by the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy to identify non-compliant products and bolster consumer protection standards across the digital retail landscape.

The collaboration integrates Temu into a fast-tracked reporting system, allowing Italian consumers to flag suspected counterfeit goods directly through CODICI’s digital platforms. These reports are then routed through dedicated channels, enabling the company to review and address potential intellectual property violations more efficiently. The framework operates alongside key institutional bodies, including the Guardia di Finanza and the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, to bridge the gap between private-sector digital commerce and national enforcement authorities.

Beyond reactive reporting, the partnership emphasizes consumer education. Both parties intend to produce guidance designed to help shoppers identify signs of non-compliant goods and navigate official assistance channels. This move aligns with Temu’s broader regional strategy, which saw the company participate in over 30 conferences during the first half of 2026 to engage with trade associations and consumer protection groups. By joining VER.O, Temu adds to its existing intellectual property commitments, which currently include membership in the International Trademark Association and a memorandum of understanding with the International AntiCounterfeiting Coalition.
