RBC Taps Sian Hurrell and Robin Beer to Lead European Expansion

Royal Bank of Canada has appointed Sian Hurrell and Robin Beer as Co-CEOs of RBC Europe Limited, signaling an aggressive push to consolidate the firm’s regional footprint. The move aims to synchronize the bank’s capital markets and wealth management operations as it seeks to capture greater market share across the continent.

Hurrell and Beer will maintain their existing functional responsibilities while assuming oversight of regional governance and regulatory strategy. Hurrell continues as Head of Capital Markets Europe, while Beer stays on as CEO of RBC Wealth Management Europe and Head of Global Sales & Relationship Management. Their joint leadership arrives as the bank looks to capitalize on the recent integration of Brewin Dolphin, a deal that bolstered RBC’s position among the top five wealth managers in the United Kingdom.

Neil McLaughlin, Group Head of RBC Wealth Management, described the appointment as a tactical response to a fragmented market environment. The bank currently employs over 5,400 people across 11 European countries. Derek Neldner, Group Head of RBC Capital Markets, noted that the institution is moving beyond its foundational building phase to prioritize rapid scale. By aligning its asset management, capital markets, and wealth divisions, the bank intends to deploy its combined financial strength to secure new client mandates in a shifting global trade landscape.
