Corinex and Plexigrid Partner to Bring Real-Time Clarity to Power Grids

As the surge in AI and electrification pushes power grids to their breaking point, Vancouver-based Corinex and Spain’s Plexigrid have teamed up to bridge the gap between physical infrastructure and digital oversight. Their joint platform utilizes edge computing to transform how utilities monitor and manage low-voltage distribution networks.

Most distribution grids operate in the dark, with 99% of their nodes remaining unmodeled due to the prohibitive cost of installing high-resolution sensors everywhere. While Plexigrid has previously utilized Bayesian AI to reconstruct grid states from existing billing and asset data, those models often lack the precision required for modern, bidirectional energy flows. By integrating Corinex’s Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) architecture, the new solution injects high-resolution, low-latency data directly from the physical network into the digital twin.

This integration allows for a significant jump in performance metrics. According to the companies, time resolution drops from a standard 15-to-60-minute interval to just one minute, while operational uncertainty is slashed from 10% to roughly 1%. This enables grid operators to move from conservative, broad safety margins to a more aggressive utilization of existing assets, pushing capacity closer to physical limits without risking instability. By processing data at the edge—near substations and transformers—the system provides utilities with the immediate responsiveness needed to orchestrate distributed energy resources, such as residential solar and EV charging stations, in real time.
