First Graphene Strikes Deal to Enter Chinese Cement Market

First Graphene has signed a memorandum of understanding with The Sixth Element, appointing the Chinese firm as the primary distributor for its PureGRAPH CEM additive. This partnership positions the Australian company to penetrate the world’s largest cement market while laying the groundwork for future local manufacturing operations.

The agreement grants Sixth Element exclusivity in China, provided the company meets specific annual purchase targets. The partnership is designed to scale quickly: once sales reach 200 tonnes, the parties will enter formal negotiations for a joint venture or licensing agreement. Upon hitting the 500-tonne milestone, a dedicated manufacturing facility will be established to produce the additive locally, potentially expanding Sixth Element's distribution rights to a global scale.

For First Graphene, the move is a pivot into a sector that dwarfs Western markets, with China producing roughly 21 times more cement than the United States. Michael Bell, Managing Director and CEO of First Graphene, noted the deal is the largest commercial growth opportunity in the company’s strategy. Beyond volume, the technology offers a path to mitigate the environmental impact of a sector currently responsible for 15% of China’s national carbon emissions. By localizing production, the company aims to solidify its footprint in the region while addressing the urgent demand for lower-emission construction materials.
