Kirk Schwabe, Taylor Swift's Former Security Guard, Dies at 69

Kirk Schwabe, the former criminal justice teacher who served as Taylor Swift’s personal security guard during her early rise to stardom, passed away on Friday, July 3. His death from metastatic kidney cancer coincided with the day Swift married NFL star Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Schwabe, 69, transitioned from a career as a Chicago police officer to teaching at Hendersonville High School in Nashville before joining Swift’s inner circle. His wife, Jane, noted that he regarded the singer with the same protective affection he held for his own daughters. Though he eventually stepped down from his security role due to the job's grueling pace, he maintained a supportive bond with the artist, famously telling her early on that she was destined for global fame. His daughter, Sarah Gordon, recently shared that her father had entered hospice care as his health declined.

While the news cast a shadow over the weekend, the ceremony at Madison Square Garden proceeded with over 1,000 guests, including Bradley Cooper and Jay-Z. Officiated by Adam Sandler, the wedding featured notable roles for the couple's siblings, Austin and Jason Kelce. The event followed an August 2025 engagement, marking a high-profile culmination for the couple, who opted for an expansive guest list to avoid the social pressures of smaller, exclusive weddings.
