During a recent appearance on The A24 Podcast, Rogen addressed the speculation while speaking with director Olivia Wilde. He recalled that Hathaway felt the inclusion of the crowning scene did not align with her personal brand, even though the footage was intended to be simulated rather than authentic. While Rogen noted that he simply accepted her reasoning at the time, he admitted the scene was a difficult element for any performer to navigate.
Following Hathaway’s exit, the role of Alison Scott went to Katherine Heigl, who helped propel the film to significant commercial success. Despite the missed opportunity, Rogen suggested that Hathaway’s instinct to leave was ultimately justified. He emphasized that she possessed a clearer sense of her professional direction than he did at the time, noting that her career trajectory has since validated her decision to step away from the project before filming began.
