Hansa Biopharma finalizes €115 million Idefirix licensing deal with SERB

Hansa Biopharma has officially closed an exclusive licensing agreement with SERB Pharmaceuticals, transferring the commercial rights for its transplant drug Idefirix across Europe and the Middle East. The deal, valued at €115 million, provides the Swedish firm with significant capital as it prepares for a potential product launch in the United States.

The agreement grants SERB exclusive rights to develop and market Idefirix for solid organ transplantation across the EU, the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, and the MENA region. The financial terms include an initial payment of €110 million, with an additional €5 million contingent upon the acceptance of a filing for full regulatory approval by the European Medicines Agency.

CEO Renée Aguiar-Lucander noted that the partnership allows Hansa to leverage SERB’s extensive experience in rare disease markets, ensuring better access for highly sensitized kidney transplant patients. The influx of capital arrives at a critical juncture, supporting Hansa’s internal research pipeline and its ongoing preparations for the anticipated US launch of imlifidase. The company expects a decision from the FDA regarding its biologics license application by December 19, 2026.

SERB, a privately owned specialist pharmaceutical firm, will now oversee the commercial operations and long-term efficacy follow-ups for the drug. Hansa will continue to assist in the transition, particularly regarding the conversion to full market authorization. Centerview Partners and Morgan Lewis advised Hansa on the transaction, while Rothschild & Co and Freshfields served as advisors to SERB.
