The initiative marks a shift in how researchers approach anorexia, an illness that currently lacks any approved targeted drug therapies. By focusing on the neurochemical dysfunction and habit-driven pathways that fuel self-destructive cycles, the team at Will Therapeutics hopes to establish a new category of psychiatric medicine. The work will be conducted in collaboration with the Douglas Hospital Research Centre, leveraging its expertise to move beyond symptomatic management toward biological intervention.
Benjamin Taylor, CEO of Will Therapeutics, noted that the grant validates the company’s underlying science while providing the resources to scale their primary program. If successful, the research could provide a clinical template for treating a wider spectrum of compulsive disorders that share similar neurological foundations. The partnership underscores a broader effort by CQDM to bridge the gap between early-stage biotechnology and viable medical solutions within the Canadian landscape.
