Construction officially began on the Children's Health Specialty Center RedBird, which is slated to open in December 2027. The facility will offer primary care, urgent care, behavioral health, and sports medicine. By placing these services directly in the community, developers hope to reduce travel times for the approximately 35,000 patients from southern Dallas County who currently must seek specialty care elsewhere.
Terrence Maiden, CEO of Russell Glen Company, framed the construction as the fulfillment of a decade-long promise to revitalize a landmark site. The project joins other major health providers already on the campus, including Parkland Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center. This concentration of medical services is intended to reposition the former retail mall as a vital community anchor, moving beyond traditional commerce to address chronic health outcomes in an underserved area. Christopher Durovich, CEO of Children's Health, emphasized that the center is built on the belief that specialized pediatric care should be accessible close to home for every child.
